Keystone creates new division to focus on lightweight trailers
GOSHEN, Ind. -- Between high gas prices and a challenged economy, the market has spoken. And Keystone RV responded Monday with the announcement of a new division dedicated to lightweight, energy-efficient travel trailers that can be towed by smaller vehicles.

"In today's changing market, the product team's No. 1 goal was to engineer and design an ultra-light travel trailer that is aerodynamic and looks lightweight," said Chris Hermon, Keystone general manager

The products will range in length from 16 feet to 32 feet and weigh from 2,200 to 5,500 pounds.

"We are out to change perceptions and not just be like everyone else," Hermon said. "The product will cut its own path and bring to the market an ultra-lite that will genuinely excite the consumer. It will also offer "a wide array of enhanced features."

"It looks very different than anything else," said Jim Mac, communications manager, in a phone interview Monday. "This is going to be for a couple as well as a family.

"It's not a tiny European-type trailer. It has full accommodations, sleeping and holding tanks."

Price range has also been yet to be determined, he said. However, the company expects to have a few models on display at the annual National RV Trade Show in Louisville on Dec. 2. Launch date for the first of the new lightweight products will be later this month.

The new lightweight division will be headed up by Jeff Kloska, product manager, and the trailers will be produced in Keystone's Goshen complex.
